Weird tracert from my internet

Have a weird problem, when I use my laptop at home I get random disconnections from my Outlook.

I use a DirectAccess vpn as well, that get's disconnected sometimes.

Our IT at work have checked my laptop and even a workstation.

The thing they found was when they did a tracert, the result didnt look good.

No good answer from TDC support call either (they didnt have support on tracert), and wanted me to make a post here.

Tracing route to []

over a maximum of 30 hops:

1. 18 ms 3 ms 4 ms []

2. 11 ms 6 ms 4 ms []

3. 12 ms 12 ms 13 ms []

4. 13 ms 14 ms 14 ms []

5. 14 ms 13 ms 13 ms []

6. 18 ms 12 ms 13 ms []

Our IT says that it should be not be the same name, why is this?

My laptop works fine with tracert at work, so it has to be the internet connection.

Hi AnnChr33.

Your IT is right it shall not look that way, it seems as if it's looping but in opposite way because a tracert initiated from Your pc will begin with Your own router (e.g.

Here's my tracert from a PC :

Tracing route to []
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1     1 ms     1 ms     1 ms
  2    20 ms    21 ms    23 ms []
  3    29 ms    30 ms    30 ms []
  4    30 ms    30 ms    30 ms []
  5    30 ms    30 ms    35 ms
  6    30 ms    30 ms    30 ms
  7    30 ms    30 ms    30 ms []

You're telling that You're using a vpn connection ? I'm not familiar to using vpn so all I can tell from reading this list is that if You also is using the TDC Homebox  there may be difficulties using VPN (some low level calls are prohibited in the box I think).

To my knowledge a vpn connection get's You an IP address from Your VPN endpoint (Your work) which then means that it may be some setup thing that is the issue - the tracert command is executed as if it was from Your laptop connected at work but gets stuck because of firewall or a routing table problem.

I know there's skilled people with VPN knowledge reading this list so hopefully now it's getting a bit cooler outside Glad humørikonthey may get back to You - but this is a user to user list so it may take some time.

The vpn functionality works just like a tunnel, so it forwards company related data through the tunnel.

Rest goes out through the internet, so it doesnt work like a normal vpn.

Though, it cannot be the vpn that creates this. Because our workstation have the problem as well, and it has no VPN. And not the same firewall suit as my laptop has.

Kind regards

What kind of Internet connection do You have ? is it a Homebox solution (TDC standard for non business users) or do You have something else ?
